Completed in 1976, becoming the world's tallest self-contained structure and tallest tower at the time, all records were held for 34 years until the completion of the Khalifa Tower and Canton Tower in 2010, but it remained the longest standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, A signature icon on the Toronto skyline, and a symbol of Canada, attracts more than two million visitors annually.
The name "CN" originally referred to the Canadian National, since the CN Tower became the common name in daily use, the endpoint was extended to the Canadian National Tower or the National Tower of Canada, however none of these names were commonly used.
In 1995, CN Tower was announced as one of the seven modern wonders by the American Society of Civil Engineers, which also belongs to the World Grand Prix
